Conference Schedule (July 15, 2021)

Theme : Quality Assurance / Microservices,Containers and Serverless

X Topic Abstract

We will be talking about how automation has evolved over a period of time to become more of a value generating stream. This includes evolving team dynamics and permeation of quality gates into different practices. We would also see how some programs achieved higher efficiencies with small bite size tweaks to their existing skill demography. To conclude, we will try to understand the trends influencing automation practice and how can quality be embedded into automation

Speaker Profile

With more than 12 years of work experience in Automation and Quality for B2B products in areas across Supply chain management, Finance and Health care utilising technology. Automation Evangelist. QA transformation agent for Automation adoption. Still learning

X Topic Abstract

The 2 key areas of focus in this entire topic are:
- SAFe
- Shift left

Let’s start with shift left
• Whenever we talk shifting to left, the 1st guiding principle that drives this discussion is “Cost of Quality”
o CoQ increases exponentially as we find software issues later in the life cycle

Now let’s talk SAFe
• SAFe is nothing but being Agile at Scale, at Enterprise level
o Why do we need to talk at enterprise level? Because that is the reality. Organizations are across geographies, Solutions are across products and platforms, agile teams are spread across everywhere. How do we really bring all of these together to build solutions and add to it, with high quality?

Speaker Profile

A strong, highly ethical leader with emphasis on value-based leadership - 19 years of experience in Business Consulting, Operational Excellence, Business Strategy & Delivery.

X Topic Abstract

The talk would cover -
- Journey from Monolithic to Microservice
- Microservices design for business capabilities
- Guidelines for adopting microservices in the Enterprise
- Ecosystem for Microservices Implementation and Operation
- Conclusion

X Topic Abstract

AI & ML are fostering Digital transformation across various industries in solving the business problems. Talk covers demystifying AI & ML, the changes that these technologies are bringing to software testing. Is the advent of AI & ML an opportunity or threat to the QA community. Mindset & Skill set changes required by QA fraternity to adapt to the changes. Will demonstrate with a case study and ending with key takeaways.

X Topic Abstract

There are times where write to databases and notifications has to be done as a single unit of work / transaction. Downstreams depend on the notifications to initiate additional workflows in external domains. If the notification is failed it might cause business impact for the downstream systems or leave the system in inconsistent state. We will address how can we handle such situations in this speech.,

Speaker Profile

Balasubramanian Engineering leader have been part of several transformation projects that require low latency / high availability and scale projects. Having been involved in various roles from Lead engineer, Architect and Engineering manager. Developed and delivered distributed systems that are highly available, observable and resilient. A sought of person in the organization to deliver systems that are to be delivered on time with quality.

X Topic Abstract

The technology world has benefitted significantly from the application of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery(CI/CD). However, the term Continuous is not absolute. The cadence to which Continuous refers to has been shrinking from months, to weeks to days to hours to mins. The shrinking cadence does not come for free however: there is a lot of effort and resources involved in meeting the quality expectation of each delivery. In this presentation we will discuss the considerations and tradeoffs for an optimal cadence for CI/CD.

X Topic Abstract

Containers are isolated workload environments in a virtualized operating system. They speed up workload processes and application delivery because they can be spun up quickly. They also provide a solution for application-portability challenges because they are not tied to software on physical machines. Docker is a popular tool used for this. Kubernetes is the most popular configuration tool for managing Docker containers.

Microservices are single-function applications comprise small, self-contained units working together through APIs that are not dependent on a specific language. A microservices architecture is faster and more agile than a traditional application architecture

Containers are isolated environments, they can be used to deploy microservices quickly, regardless of the code language used to create each microservice.

X Topic Abstract

When people talk about testing microservices, they are concerned about whether the microservice is passed or failed. But in actuality, testing is more than just checking the pass or fail. The microservice architecture brought many complexities along with its advantages. In my point of view, the biggest of these complexities is debugging and tracing. As microservices uses the distributed architecture, it is very finding the root cause of the problems. Communication is asynchronous and message execution order not guaranteed, so we cannot sure which transaction causes a problem. To identify which transaction is causing the problem, use the correlation ID in logging. This helps us hugely when we have to visualize and understand what has happened with this transaction across different microservices.

X Topic Abstract

In this session, I would like to share our experience how Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) has helped us to build a highly efficient and successful global DevSecOps team. Below listed are some of the major challenges we had in addition to supporting multiple product stacks and varying skillset requirement.
· Maintain Product Security, Subscription and New Feature Compliance
· Frequent Product Upgrades & Migration – Seamless, Availability
· Various Deployment Requirements – Standalone, Clustered, DMZ
· Application Integration and Consistency
· Easy to Repeat and Scalable model
· Support more Services with less resources
Our answer to this growing problem was usage of SAFe ‘Scaled Agile Framework’ & ‘IaC - Infrastructure as Code’.
In detailed presentation we would like to share our learnings, best practices with participants and also include metrics showing the hours and effort saved.

X Topic Abstract

I would like to give a 30 min presentation that covers the automation strategy used for two different types of software products in my group. One is a pure back-end system which is not exposed to the end-customer and the other is a customer-facing web application.

First one is a multi-tenant Data Hub running on Oracle which has about 7 TB of data. The engineering team uses Unix, Informatica and Oracle PL/SQL to maintain this hub. The hub is the heart of the platform and supplies data to several different downstream applications. I have been leading an automation initiative that revolves around this hub. The automation platform can carry out Regression, Smoke as well as Functional testing of the Data hub.

The second example would be that of our Enterprise Reporting system. This system hosts a bunch of BI reports for various OEMs on a web portal. The reports themselves are built on Angular & Pentaho with Greenplum & SQL Server being the back-end databases. The automation testing here involves the UI elements of the portal, the report KPIs as well as features like Email subscription, print, role based login etc.
