World Agile Testing & Test Automation Summit

Briefly Know About This Event

We recently wrapped up 2017 as the year of digital quality. We talked about how digital transformation is going to bring even more drastic shifts in how we do software delivery. And how your organization needs to brace up to bring agile models to work in order to release higher quality software faster through automated testing.

A key trend that will sweep over to bring economies of scale, speed and intelligence will be automated testing followed by AI. We've seen a massive movement from manual to automation in the last couple of years, as manual could not handle this scale of change. Manual testing matrices are too big to approximate manually, take a long time, and are very complex to handle for applications like Uber, Snapchat, and Twitter that are scaling at the speed of light.

Manual testing might not be able to meet the demand of a plethora of web browsers, devices, operating systems, screen resolutions, and responsive designs. And to deliver quality at the speed of digital, there will be a need to bring in the right automated testing initiatives. But automation is vast and there are several nuances to it. Which nuances will be more pronounced in 2018?

World Agile Testing & Test Automation Summit will help you get industry best practices in Test Automation and the latest tools and techniques to achieve it.

X Topic Abstract

Test automation has plenty of myths about it. Out of all that I've seen so far, the nastiest and arguably the most dangerous is with regards to what constitutes automation. What makes automation effective? and how? Unfortunately, such are the least known and discussed among the myths. The way the term has been popularized, there's barely anyone out there who doesn't think "test automation", when someone utters the word "automation". Thanks to 'expert'-led discussions on popular forums, aggravated by numerous tools and frameworks that fill the market, we're led to believe that nothing short of perfection is acceptable. Perfection could mean various things - an end-to-end, CI suite built from the best of libraries, to start with. Of course, automation without frameworks are untouchables, and if possible must use the choicest of the design patterns. Plenty more. Of all such, my favorite is "robustness", which is so infamously and insanely elusive and hence makes a perfect entry barrier to the average engineer.

THe other part of this talk is to deal with how to place automatiom ubiquitously in a development team. and how could automation help in getting the best from the team. I'll use some demos (of the tools I've built in the past) to give some ideas.

Speaker Profile

Anand has nearly 22 years of experience with testing software systems, most of which was spent on automation and related areas of work. During this period, he also played roles other than a native "tester" role - been a development engineer to a technical writer to a product manager. Through the years, he has gained considerable expertise at problem solving, conceptualizing-designing-implementing tools for the software testing space. He involves himself a lot into activities that benefit the larger community, and especially loves to teach relevant skills to others. Anand shares his thoughts through various forums and speaks at conferences regularly.

X Topic Abstract

User stories are critical to the agile process. Right from inception to delivery, an user story goes through various phases and gets handled by various “roles”. It is important to maintain the essence of the story as it moves through its life cycle and also regress it after it is released. Communication and collaboration is the key which binds the agile team and their is a need for a common language as well as tools for being effective.
Let’s talk about the role that BDD plays in the overall process and the various tools that can help us achieve better results.

Speaker Profile

Smita is a Software Quality Assurance Professional working for more than 14 years in this field. She is well versed with quality assurance activities starting from requirement analysis to product delivery and has a deep understanding of testing methodologies and principals. She mainly works on E2E integration testing across multiple scrum teams and drives testing and automation from customer's perspective.

X Topic Abstract

Behaviour driven development which can trace its roots to Test Driven Development process has been around us for quite some time. In philosophy, it tries to create a synergy between different aspects of the software product development process. As per Dan North, created a BDD framework, BDD is an outside-in, pull-based, multiple-stakeholder, multiple-scale, high-automation, agile methodology. It describes a cycle of interactions with well-defined outputs, resulting in the delivery of working, tested software that matters. Testing and test automation are one of key stakeholders of this approach, and rightly so. For any behaviour based approach requires a constant feedback for its continuous improvement. It becomes rather imperative that we should design our test softwares and frameworks which can keep up with this demanding approach.

For such approach, behaviour becomes one of the fundamental unit and we can construct the entire test lifecycle by properly framing and chaining these behavioural units together. If we are able to introduce automation to this process, then it becomes a long term reaping reward where we get benefited not just by having a robust user level documentation which all the stakeholders understand, a validated product with clearly defined user perspective also a regression suite which will help in other functional integrations. Furthermore, this behaviour based scripts could be treated as source of truth for all future developments and/or improvements as they have been vetted by different stakeholders!

Speaker Profile

Atul Sharma has been working for more than 5 years in the field of test automation and related software development. In his short career span, he has had the opportunity to work with organisations like Snapdeal, Sprinklr, Zoomcar etc. He prefers java as his coding language and has worked on various server side stack using Spring, Play framework etc as well as test automation frameworks and libraries like, TestNg, Rest Assured, Selenium, Cucumber etc. He is passionate about providing solutions to the problem test automation faces and believes that future of test automation is in its integration with machine learning and AI.

Apart from this, he like writing poems, articles etc on Medium. He is a big movie/tv series buff and would welcome a long discussion on any topic related to science, technology or philosophy over a cup of coffee.

Diwakar Menon is an entrepreneur and founder of Last Mile Consultants, a boutique Test Advisory firm. Diwakar has helped various clients in setting up & optimising their Test programs, transforming to Agile / DevOps, assessing & improving their testing capability, helping them design effective tests and ensure that they have risk assessments built into their release schedules. Diwakar has worked in global organisations like Tech Mahindra, Perot Systems (now Dell), Deutsche Software, Tata Unisys (now TCS) and CMC Ltd.

X Topic Abstract

In the fast-paced world of agile, have you:
• ever faced a problem where your testing says everything is good to go, still fails at Production?
• ever thought what I missed while testing the product?
• thought, All my tests are Pass but the product is getting bad reviews from users?
• thought, I do not have enough time and I don't know what to do?
• been given No requirements, what should I test?
• been given only 2 hours to test, what to do?
• felt that despite hard work, the manager is never happy. What is missing?

If you have all such questions and more, feel free to attend my talk. It is totally interactive and rather than calling it just a talk we can safely call this a guided discussion.

X Topic Abstract

Speed in how we do and how well we do is a brilliant combination of machine and human, the latter being the limiting function. The role of individual smartness is key to success in the Agile context. Smartness is a potent combination of knowledge and skills, the latter happens only with extreme practice, possible only via certain good habits. What are these and how to nurture them to do brilliant Agile QA is the objective of this talk.

X Topic Abstract

Applying Analytics and AI in software development is booming. Decades of research in analytics, visualizations, statistics, artificial intelligence, etc. has generated a large number of powerful methods for learning from data. If general analytics is an active field, software analytics is doubly so. Never before have we had so much information about the details on how people collaborate to build software.

In this session, we will talk about:
· Our point of view of applying data analytics on software repositories to improve the way we test.
· The challenges that we faced during our journey and the lessons learned.
· The future scope of applying the concepts of data analytics , particularly machine learning and artificial intelligence to improve the way we test and provide feedback on the quality and integrity.
