Advertisements have evolved in our country ever since the access to Data & Smartphones has exponentially risen [Data consumption in 2020 was ~12GB per subscriber per month compared to just under 1GB in 2016] ; 75% of this data consumption is on account of Video (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Youtube)

Users have shifted from usual Advertisement media [Print, TV etc.] to the Smartphone Apps (Youtube, Instagram, Facebook) OR Video-on-demand e.g. Netflix, Prime, MX etc.

Further, the recent pandemic has confined users to their homes and significantly accelerated this shift towards new age media Acc to a study , average time spent on Mobile phones is now at ~ 5hrs

On the supply side, things have changed quickly too, Shops have been forced to make a transition to Online, small businesses are taking orders through Whatsapp, Telegram. A lot of brick/mortar stores have moved to Digital platforms, thereby reducing the liabilities for survival during the time of pandemic

The users are now starting the purchase decision from the smartphone, comparing products across Apps, watching brand videos by promoters, reviews from other users

Hence, the usual medium of consumer reach like Print, TV, OTT are now taken over by Digital

From the standpoint of a Marketer, large portion of marketing budget is allocated to Digital which generates a superior ROI

The scene is hence set for AI, brands now need to shift their focus on how to use the data available on usage patterns , preferences etc. left by the user through cookies, history etc. and focus attention towards the needs of the user in an unprecedented manner

In this session, Jessie Paul, a veteran CMO, marketing consultant and a director on multiple Boards will share the ten steps to career nirvana, based on her experience of becoming the CMO of a Fortune 1000 company at 35, published author at 40, and an Independent Director on multiple boards by 50.

Jessie Paul is a marketing enthusiast, author and board member to various listed companies. She was Global Brand Manager of Infosys during its hectic 10X growth era in the late 90s and early 2000s. She headed up Quintant's branding efforts before it was acquired by iGATE Global Solutions and continued to head marketing for the integrated organization post acquisition. In her 30s she was appointed Chief Marketing Officer of Wipro Technologies when they were at a revenue $1B USD and saw a 4x increase in just five years. She is considered as among the pioneers of B2B marketing in India and was responsible for branding, communications, digital marketing, go to market strategy and planning in all these organizations. In 2010, Jessie Paul founded Paul Writer a marketing advisory firm that works with global and Indian clients to maximize marketing impact. In this role she guides organizations with their marketing strategy, solution portfolio mapping, branding and customer outreach.

Multiple organisations have also sought her expertise on their supervisory Boards and she is an independent director on the boards of Bajaj Consumer Care, PB Fintech (parent of PolicyBazaar and PaisaBazaar), CreditAccess Grameen, Royal Orchid Hotels, and Expleo Solutions. Her first book, No Money Marketing: From Upstart to Big Brand on a Frugal Budget was published by Tata McGraw-Hill, and was based on her experience putting Indian brands on the global map. Her new book, Marketing Without Money: An Essential Guide will be published by Bloomsbury in December 2021, and discusses how to build a brand for less in the digital era.

Jessie holds an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and a bachelor's degree from National Institute of Technology, Trichy. She is married to her IIM classmate, Aniruddha Paul, and divides her time between homes in Bangalore Amsterdam and Coorg. They have one daughter.
