Overview of the event

We recently wrapped up 2017 as the year of digital quality. We talked about how digital transformation is going to bring even more drastic shifts in how we do software delivery. And how your organization needs to brace up to bring agile models to work in order to release higher quality software faster through automated testing.

A key trend that will sweep over to bring economies of scale, speed and intelligence will be automated testing followed by AI. We've seen a massive movement from manual to automation in the last couple of years, as manual could not handle this scale of change. Manual testing matrices are too big to approximate manually, take a long time, and are very complex to handle for applications like Uber, Snapchat, and Twitter that are scaling at the speed of light.

Manual testing might not be able to meet the demand of a plethora of web browsers, devices, operating systems, screen resolutions, and responsive designs. And to deliver quality at the speed of digital, there will be a need to bring in the right automated testing initiatives. But automation is vast and there are several nuances to it. Which nuances will be more pronounced in 2018?

121 Test Automation Day will help you get industry best practices in Test Automation and the latest tools and techniques to achieve it.

Test Automation in converge with CI practices can bring very good output especially from time-to-market perspective. Yet analysis of execution results trough phases of CI and CD may prove non-trivial task due to both technical and cultural aspects. With Continuous Confidence approach, I'd like to present a way to ensure risks while software travels trough development life-cycle are easily to manage. Presentation covers as well implementation of the approach based on most popular open source tools.

X Topic Abstract

In today's fast changing world, IT organization is under constant pressure to deliver new application faster and cheaper. Some have figured out a way to sustain and thrive but many are still grappling with the challenges that digital technologies pose to their business. This challenges pushes the companies to remodel their software delivery and adopt Agile/DevOps. In the entire scheme of DevOps, testing remains an essential "glue" and governs the success or failure of Continuous Integration/Delivery (CI/CD). Continuous testing (CT) becomes an integral part of the entire software delivery pipeline. Many organizations that have adopted DevOps have the opinion that by maximizing Test Automation, they would be able to achieve the desired results of CI/CD. But the question remains: Is that a fair expectation? Answer is No.

So the purpose of my talk is to highlight how continuous testing is different from Test automation, strategy to implement continuous testing along with a case study and key benefits.

Does test automation work in all organization? Is it a pill for all ill for that can end all your testing troubles? This case study dives into a reallife project that involved setting up a new test automation team in Eastern Europe, and implementing a "Keyword Driven Framework" to enable manual testers to create and maintain their own test scripts.

X Topic Abstract

This talk will discuss how sandboxes which simulate existing systems can play a crucial role in helping to shift left in testing. Simulated systems can be replicated at will in the cloud, in docker or on premise such that each developer develop and test with while also play a critical role the CI/CD process, integrated testing right up to the point where a final acceptance test is run against the actual system. This will include a demo of a sandbox created to implement the Open Banking Implementation Entity accounts and payments standards for PSD2 to illustrate the power of these systems.

Speaker Profile

John has over 35 years' experience working with enterprise IT systems in various roles including development, design and architecture. He has used this experience to create a suite of products to address lack of access to complex test systems which is a major bottleneck in the roll out of new products and the on boarding of external customers in large enterprise organizations. The result of this is Ostia's Portus EVS technology which enables the creation of clever, simulated test systems and sandboxes on demand. These sandboxes facilitate the modelling and testing of new standards for Open Banking and PSD2, and implementation of new technologies such as Blockchain.

X Topic Abstract

Performance and scalability are core quality attributes of any system; unit testing, integration testing, UI testing, they all focus on functional requirements. Good performances mean happy users, less resource usage which translates to lower running costs (power, cloud bills) and customer retention.

In this session we will recall some basic concept of performance testing and demonstrate some of the many tools available in the cloud.
