Overview of the event

We recently wrapped up 2019 as the year of digital quality. We talked about how digital transformation is going to bring even more drastic shifts in how we do software delivery. And how your organization needs to brace up to bring agile models to work in order to release higher quality software faster through automated testing.

A key trend that will sweep over to bring economies of scale, speed and intelligence will be automated testing followed by AI. We've seen a massive movement from manual to automation in the last couple of years, as manual could not handle this scale of change. Manual testing matrices are too big to approximate manually, take a long time, and are very complex to handle for applications like Uber, Snapchat, and Twitter that are scaling at the speed of light.

Manual testing might not be able to meet the demand of a plethora of web browsers, devices, operating systems, screen resolutions, and responsive designs. And to deliver quality at the speed of digital, there will be a need to bring in the right automated testing initiatives. But automation is vast and there are several nuances to it. Which nuances will be more pronounced in 2020?

Agile Testing and Test Automation Summit will help you get industry best practices in Test Automation and the latest tools and techniques to achieve it.

Every person and every organization wants to work better and work different. The definition of “work management” – what, how, when has changed significantly over the last few years. Work is no more managed by the manager rather it is managed by teams. These teams can be small or have individuals across the organization. Project for the web is the new addition to Microsoft Project product family that is simple to use, flexible for any project type, collaborative and transparent enough to provide visibility across the organization. This talk walks through its powerful features to create plans and extend it through Power Platform.

The ROI, effectiveness and productivity improvements on Test Automation will depend on how well Automation is integrated into a project. Unless there is a clear communication and handshaking process, Automation will continue to be in a separate silo. Regression tests must be automated so that it does not pile up, it is important to shift-left automation. The essence is to know what to share upfront by various stakeholders and how soon to integrate Automation into the development cycle. The talk will highlight how to create this magic and make it work.

Writing automation is the easiest part. Maintaining it and adding value is the biggest challenge. Incremental feature addition calls for increasing UI test coverage . This calls for constant scaling of infrastructure, scope of tests.Measuring KPI of the automation also holds the key. This would have been the biggest nightmare for organization which had grown its automation suite over the time. The growing test numbers make the maintainability of test, gates which run them hassle. It calls for effective tools to handle, measure and evaluate the automation suite.Best Practices

1) Keep the UI gate light. In the testing pyramid, UI test should be the lightest. In organizations which are matured, unit test and integration test takes precedence

2) Always add tags/test categories to the test so that it can be run separately based on risk/feature/test types.

3) Cross browser testing should be limited to few tests that enable user journey through the product and hence maintainable

4) Visual regression testing should be a must in test suite as it provides fastest method to find issues Maintainability
1)Splitting the tests based on risk and running them as separate gates on CI holds the key
2) This would help us get faster feedback since we run specific test suite parallel
3) This would enable us to focus of high risk test suite for last minute check-in’s KPI
1) Measuring effectiveness of the gates ( Defects found per iteration against each gate )
2) Flakiness on gates (This will measure the maintenance index of the gate)
3) Running a brainstorming of defects/bugs that are not caught by gates and creating a closed feedback

Exploring new tools like cypress, protractor , specflow recently. Got extensive knowledge in selenium and have designed the test framework that is in use for more than 5 years

X Topic Abstract

Gone are the days, when Automation was considered to be only functional and silo. The need of the hour is a full lifecycle automation, that co-exists in the agile and DevOps world. Typically in an agile world, the tester needs to know what needs to be automated and when.

Without addressing the basic dependencies of automation such as test data, stability of the application, successful automation will seem impossible.

While testers skills are mandatorily increasing towards technical upskilling, it is imperative and mandatory to address the basic needs of “Intelligent Automation” by leveraging self-healing automation tools, by bringing in Best Practices of successful test automation.

This talk focuses on how to achieve successful automation in an agile environment.
