Overview of the event

We recently wrapped up 2017 as the year of digital quality. We talked about how digital transformation is going to bring even more drastic shifts in how we do software delivery. And how your organization needs to brace up to bring agile models to work in order to release higher quality software faster through automated testing.

A key trend that will sweep over to bring economies of scale, speed and intelligence will be automated testing followed by AI. We've seen a massive movement from manual to automation in the last couple of years, as manual could not handle this scale of change. Manual testing matrices are too big to approximate manually, take a long time, and are very complex to handle for applications like Uber, Snapchat, and Twitter that are scaling at the speed of light.

Manual testing might not be able to meet the demand of a plethora of web browsers, devices, operating systems, screen resolutions, and responsive designs. And to deliver quality at the speed of digital, there will be a need to bring in the right automated testing initiatives. But automation is vast and there are several nuances to it. Which nuances will be more pronounced in 2018?

121 Test Automation Day will help you get industry best practices in Test Automation and the latest tools and techniques to achieve it.

121 Test Automation Day, Berlin

X Topic Abstract

Root cause of majority of software bugs is lack of collaboration during development phase. PM, Dev and QA don't talk each other's language and work separately. With BDD team can easily collaborate and agree upon what's needed to delivered each sprint. This reduces obvious bugs count drastically. I'll talk about "3 Amigos Session" & "Examples Mapping"

Once user stories are written will show how they are automated at UI level ( with Selenium, Appium ) and API level ( with rest-assured ) along with Cucumber tool.

All these best & simple practices results in avoiding "You Burn, I Scrape" habits across IT industry.

Speaker Profile

Vikram is working as QA engineer since 2002. He has mainly worked for product based companies from US and from last 4 years with startups in Berlin.

He has expertise with open source tools like Selenium, Appium, rest-assured, Cucumber, Jenkins. He's regular contributor on Selenium, Appium, Cucumber forums.

Since last 2 years, he's practicing and trying hard to teach people about BDD ( Behaviour Driven Development ) practices, as he has seen how without simple collaboration within teams; project ends up following "You Burn, I Scrape" practices seen across IT industry.

X Topic Abstract

Test Automation is gaining more popularity by the day and more and more firms are aligning their QA teams with test automation processes. Hence I would like to use this opportunity to talk about what Test Automation Frameworks are and why they are important. I would like to talk about the most important components of a good test automation framework. As the presentation progresses, I would like to give an overview of the different kinds of test automation frameworks with relevant examples.

Speaker Profile

I have many years of experience in different areas of software testing that spans across Web, Mobile, Desktop and API. I am passionate about Object Oriented Programming and using its versatility to aid Software Testing.

X Topic Abstract

Surely it's not a new insight, but software with lesser bugs leads to happier customers, non-frustrated developers and eventually increased revenue. So why not just test the heck out of it in the first place? Well, this still has not yet settled in the DNA of every web developer.

This talk is about the options you have if you want to test Web projects in, let's say, the PHP ecosystem. Of course it's not limited to that, as we don't go into any language details.

We start with the the basics, explore what measures might be easiest to use in your project (a bit like these "low hanging fruits" that creepy sales guy keeps babbling about), make a detour on some advanced or probably even exotic testing techniques, have another short stop on Software Quality measures and finally end up with the conclusion that testing simply has to be automated and happen before every single deploy to production. Period.

Speaker Profile

Carsten Windler is a PHP developer for ages now (at least that's how it feels), and enthusiastic about Software Quality. He is the Global Head of Software Development at HolidayPirates GmbH (e.g. Urlaubspiraten.de and Holidaypirates.com, the biggest social and content driven travel sites in Europe), and probably drinks too much coffee at the moment because all that still untested code keeps him busy.

X Topic Abstract

In the last decade, the speed of our industry has increased significantly. Ten years ago it was common to only release a couple of new versions a year, as of today, there are companies delivering hundreds of software deployments per day. Agile Development, DevOps and Continuous Delivery are the main drivers for this paradigm shift which has now become widely accepted.

Where does quality happen when we’re releasing this often? Is it possible to have proper quality management and is there enough time for testing? How can we reduce what could be weeks of testing to deliver new features to our clients on a daily basis?

Alexander Schwartz is a long-term enthusiast for the topic of Agile Testing and achieving high quality standards with low effort. Based on his experiences with various products and companies, he’ll share his insights into the mystery of "faster testing". The key questions discussed in this talk are the following:

When – When do we test?
What – What should we test?
Which quality aspects are important?
How – How do we test? Which techniques are helpful?
Who – Who is involved in testing, test automation, etc.?
How much – How much should we test?

From those questions we derive the principles of effective and efficient test automation, all based on the financial impact of our decisions in our software development ecosystems.

I will talk about integrating automation tests (appium/javascript) for Android app build pipeline in Gitlab CI. Tests are being triggered on each merge request and execution on real device suing TestObject cloud service. I’ll describe the reasons behind that decision, tests project structure change and tests launch configuration in gitlab-ci.yml. And, of course, I will point the benefits we get from continuous testing of our builds Tech stack: Gitlab CI, kubernetes, android, appium, javascript, testobject.
