X Topic Abstract

The dream of agile and lean product development has always been to be able to move fast to meet customers needs before the competition. One of the pre-conditions for this to be successful has been the availability of continuous testing ie. catching bugs early in development or in the extreme at commit time. However, while there have been successes in automating and maintaining unit tests, end-to-end functional tests have not lent well to test automation with many teams resorting to crowdsourced manual testing to make for the gap. In the area of mobile app testing this issue is even more acute. Can AI be leveraged to address this issue? In this talk, we look at several AI techniques and also introduce Nimbledroid, a tool that uses AI for functional and performance testing for mobile apps.

Speaker Profile

Appliance based products whether as a standalone device or a distributed system have evolved from proprietary software on embedded hardware to virtualization on commodity hardware and to microservices on containers. At the same time the deployment of these system has gone from months to days and to seconds. When the system functionality is being developed and added at a faster pace the demand for testing to maintain the software quality is huge and is the key for the product to be successful. With Test Driven Development (TDD) adding tests seamlessly into an automated pipeline requires a robust infrastructure which includes and not limited in:

- test infrastructure-e (test topology, DUT, node, connections, etc.)
- script infrastructure (automation framework, libraries, etc.)
- reporting infrastructure (results monitoring)

keeping pace on all the three fronts with the TDD is a challenge for many organizations. We will share how we are tackling these challenges.

X Topic Abstract

What is a High Power test team? In most of the organizations, Quality teams are the gatekeepers before the product reaches the hands of the customers. You can also call it is a "Quality Gate" prior to entering into the real world. QA is an important facet of any software development life cycle process. Effective Software testing does not revolve purely around functional testing but also across various kinds of testing and the techniques used to improve the coverage, as it evolves during the course of building it. A successful test team needs to act as the first customer of the product and continue with that approach while testing the product. They should always keep customer view in mind and not just go by the specification and developer's code.

Quality testers not only test but are great contributors towards improving the design and architecture of the product as it evolves. In order to do this, an early engagement is extremely important. Efficiency of testing is another aspect where testers need to use interesting tools especially around Automation that can help them focus on other aspects of testing areas while the automation is running regularly and comes in handy while catching regressions due to code or script changes. Simplicity around resourcing, decoupling functionalities and integrating them as needed and running tests in parallel to save execution time are extremely beneficial to claim a Ninja Test Team.

Over a period of time, based on need, industry, technology and tools SDLC’s kept evolving so as the way the user requirements are captured and expressed. Over a decade, agile had become a prominent software methodology and user stories as a way to capture user requirement. User stories are one of the main source of truth for team to understand as what need to be developed and tested. In this talk, let us go over to understand as how to get good testable user stories, life cycle of a user story, how to implement automation first approach with BDD and what need to be an exploratory testing and finally when do you call the user story is DONE.
