Overview of the event

Join us at Microservices, Containers & Serverless Day in Melbourne happening on 06th September, 2019.

A microservice is a software development technique—a variant of the service-oriented architecture architectural style that structures an application as a collection of loosely coupled services.

The Microservices, Containers & Serverless day is a forum for the discussion of all aspects of Microservices, Containers & Serverless : their design, programming, and operations. Speakers from industry report success stories, best practices, current challenges, and will participate to discussion panels on the adoption and evolution of Microservices, Containers & Serverless.

Microservices, Containers & Serverless Day successfully brings together many practitioners and researchers interested in the software paradigm of Microservices, Containers & Serverless.

Microservices, Containers & Serverless Day, Melbourne
X Topic Abstract

Containers and container orchestrators have fundamentally changed the way we look at distributed systems. When in the past developers had to build these systems nearly from scratch, resulting in each architecture be sort of unique and not repeatable, we now have infrastructure and interface elements for designing and deploying services and application on distributed systems using reusable patterns for micro-service architectures and containerized components.
This session describes implementation design patterns for deployment of containerized applications on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) that meet requirements for availability, reliability and scalability. Among the patterns presented, along with practical code samples for AKS, there is Replicated Load-Balanced Services, Sharded Services and the Scatter Gather pattern.

Microservices aren’t new but the last few years have certainly seen a lot of successful implementations of the pattern. The promise of high scalability has attracted engineering teams to it like moths to a flame. There are plethora of benefits but they are accompanied by an ever growing set of technical and nontechnical pitfalls. As the shininess of microservices gradually decline, there are important lessons to learn from our scars. We will look at why microservices implementation fail, How to avoid the pitfalls and most importantly whether you need to ditch your trusty monolith after all.

Building container images is easy. Building small, secure, sharp tools specifically for our needs is not. It can be! With the help of some standard linux utilities we can craft tiny container images with the smallest possible attack surface and save time, energy and bandwidth.

DESCRIPTION - New analysts and engineers often have misconception that Testing has no broader scope and it is just confined to manual stuff. Most people think that testing is an easiest stream which can be achieved with minimum domain knowledge and almost no technical knowledge. However, both Manual and Automation testing involves a lots of effort combining your domain and technical knowledge. We will walk through examples that illustrates how to be creative with functional and regression testing, make your approach efficient to achieve high quality test results by automating your potential test scripts.

ABSTRACT - The three main attributes of Automation testing are reliability, efficiency and reusability. Most companies follow 2 weeks sprint which is a mature agile model. Manual testing gets really laborious in such fast paced environment. Agile has always been about achieving better outcomes faster; hence automation testing plays an important role for business to maximise the effectiveness of agile delivery. We’ll dive into some best practices I’ve extracted from working on multiple real- time test automation projects, finding best automation tools, defining the scope of automation vs manual efforts and most important the measure of success. With my experience, I have seen clients and projects achieving significant difference in manual efforts and reduced cost by implementing test automation. In recent years, test automation becomes a frequent topic of discussion, it’s really important for the testing community and companies to invest time and money to get this feature implemented to their current test practices.

The most organisation caught up in the hype and felt compelled to adopt the paradigm just because it's new, and everyone is talking about it. In my experience, no other architecture gained so much popularity and attention than Microservices architecture. Microservices is not something revolutionary architecture; instead, it is a natural evolution of software architecture. To be more precise, it's a refined service-oriented architecture with more emphasis on agility and scalability. More and more consultants are recommending towards the implementation of Microservice architecture, some knowingly few other unknowingly. But not every organisation do not require the type of web-scale agility and scalability requirements that push teams to adopt microservices. Before considering the Microservice architecture decision, it is very critical to understand the kind of problems addressed by Microservice architecture and also the new challenges introduced by Microservice architecture by solving those problems.

The real-life story of how we deliver our first serverless solution that was done on time, but happens to be a complete failure and how we took control over the situation and turn it into success by introducing real-time monitoring, improved logging, and other tweaks.,

X Topic Abstract

In the ever evolving and dynamic world of software architecture, you will hear new buzz words every other month
In the past couple of years microservice architectures have risen to prominence. Leading technology organizations, from Netflix to Facebook, are using microservice architectures to ensure they have the flexibility and nimbleness to rapidly adapt and respond to their customers. Microservices fits in well with Agile development and delivery.
