Advertisements have evolved in our country ever since the access to Data & Smartphones has exponentially risen [Data consumption in 2020 was ~12GB per subscriber per month compared to just under 1GB in 2016] ; 75% of this data consumption is on account of Video (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Youtube)

Users have shifted from usual Advertisement media [Print, TV etc.] to the Smartphone Apps (Youtube, Instagram, Facebook) OR Video-on-demand e.g. Netflix, Prime, MX etc.

Further, the recent pandemic has confined users to their homes and significantly accelerated this shift towards new age media Acc to a study , average time spent on Mobile phones is now at ~ 5hrs

On the supply side, things have changed quickly too, Shops have been forced to make a transition to Online, small businesses are taking orders through Whatsapp, Telegram. A lot of brick/mortar stores have moved to Digital platforms, thereby reducing the liabilities for survival during the time of pandemic

The users are now starting the purchase decision from the smartphone, comparing products across Apps, watching brand videos by promoters, reviews from other users

Hence, the usual medium of consumer reach like Print, TV, OTT are now taken over by Digital

From the standpoint of a Marketer, large portion of marketing budget is allocated to Digital which generates a superior ROI

The scene is hence set for AI, brands now need to shift their focus on how to use the data available on usage patterns , preferences etc. left by the user through cookies, history etc. and focus attention towards the needs of the user in an unprecedented manner
