Overview of the event

Machine learning is a field of artificial intelligence that uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to "learn from data, without being explicitly programmed.

The "deep" in "deep learning" refers to the number of layers through which the data is transformed. Deep Learning is a new area of Machine Learning research, which has been introduced with the objective of moving Machine Learning closer to its original goals. In deep learning, each level learns to transform its input data into a slightly more abstract and composite representation.

Thavash Govender has been involved in the IT industry for the last 19 years. After studying Electronic Engineering at the Durban Institute of Technology (DIT), he moved to Johannesburg soon afterwards to take up a role as a Systems Engineer with the German company Siemens.

He is part of Deloitte Analytics, a cross-functional team with a focus on embedding data and analytics across the firm. He runs the Analytical Insight competency area with a focus on predictive and advanced analytics including Credit Analytics, Machine Learning, Segmentation, Forecasting, Cognitive Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Rapid Prototyping and Visualisation.
He is innovative, results orientated and thrives on solving complex problems. He has great leadership skills, cares deeply about the people that works with him and has a desire to pass on knowledge enabling his team members to grow professionally.
Wessel values relationships and believes that any company is only as good as the employees and culture within the company. In his free time Wessel enjoys sports, spending time with family and running marathons.

This is because of the type of events (rare events) that we come across and the level of expertise required to successfully apply modeling. Can you define AI? What about deep learning and machine learning? These words are being used a lot lately, and they can be confusing. Here, we give you a breakdown of what each of these terms mean and how they are being used in video surveillance. The concept of artificial intelligence has been around for decades. The word “artificial” means “not natural; manmade,” and “intelligence” means the ability to think or understand. AI is a technology that allows a machine, such as a video surveillance system, to perform tasks that traditionally require human intelligence to execute. The goal of AI is to train technology to do things that humans can presently do better.

AI is not a system in and of itself: it is something that is implemented in a system. To compare: you wouldn’t say that infrared technology is a type of video surveillance system. Rather, infrared enables camera sensors to capture clear images in low-light conditions. So we can say that AI technology allows cameras to improve video analytics by integrating data processing and image processing.,
