Overview of the event

Machine learning is a field of artificial intelligence that uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to "learn from data, without being explicitly programmed.

The "deep" in "deep learning" refers to the number of layers through which the data is transformed. Deep Learning is a new area of Machine Learning research, which has been introduced with the objective of moving Machine Learning closer to its original goals. In deep learning, each level learns to transform its input data into a slightly more abstract and composite representation.

Machine learning and Deep Learning Day (07th February, 2020)
X Topic Abstract

Machine learning is a rapidly growing area. However, it’s restricted to a specialized audience. Enterprises are looking to build more and more models to solve different business challenges. In this session, i’ll enable you to identify this opportunity and propose a solution for it. AML is the service to move beyond the closed-door audience and obtain a broader reach that enables other roles within the organization to leverage machine learning at large

Speaker Profile

Thavash Govender has been involved in the IT industry for the last 19 years. After studying Electronic Engineering at the Durban Institute of Technology (DIT), he moved to Johannesburg soon afterwards to take up a role as a Systems Engineer with the German company Siemens.

X Topic Abstract

It has finally become possible to do transfer learning in NLP This means that you don't need huge datasets to solve most NLP problems thanks to the release of pre-trained language models. In this talk I will go through language models, what they are, how they work and what you can do to get started with language models etc.

X Topic Abstract

How to transform a traditional organisation to become more AI centric. I’ll explain what Deloitte has done to enable this, how we’ve built a team, what we’ve done to enable the team to learn and grow and how we are working with other businesses to truly create a collaborative AI centric organisation.

X Topic Abstract

Can you define AI? What about deep learning and machine learning? These words are being used a lot lately, and they can be confusing. Here, we give you a breakdown of what each of these terms mean and how they are being used in video surveillance. The concept of artificial intelligence has been around for decades. The word “artificial” means “not natural; manmade,” and “intelligence” means the ability to think or understand. AI is a technology that allows a machine, such as a video surveillance system, to perform tasks that traditionally require human intelligence to execute. The goal of AI is to train technology to do things that humans can presently do better.

AI is not a system in and of itself: it is something that is implemented in a system. To compare: you wouldn’t say that infrared technology is a type of video surveillance system. Rather, infrared enables camera sensors to capture clear images in low-light conditions. So we can say that AI technology allows cameras to improve video analytics by integrating data processing and image processing.,

X Topic Abstract

Understanding how machines learn to recognise image content. We'll cover a range of techniques in computer vision, from simple to more advanced, and consider applications.

X Topic Abstract

Machine Learning has formed a great part of fraud and financial crimes in recent years. This is because of the type of events (rare events) that we come across and the level of expertise required to successfully apply modeling. In this presentation, I'll be sharing machine learning algorithms that are applied, from simple rules based algorithms to ensemble models that we currently use.

X Topic Abstract

The most asked question when someone wants to start with machine learning is, where do I start. In this talk I will be giving a good view of how to build up your Machine Learning skills. What resources to invest in and how to then take what you have learnt and use it to give business value.
