Machine learning is a field of artificial intelligence that uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to "learn from data, without being explicitly programmed.
The "deep" in "deep learning" refers to the number of layers through which the data is transformed. Deep Learning is a new area of Machine Learning research, which has been introduced with the objective of moving Machine Learning closer to its original goals. In deep learning, each level learns to transform its input data into a slightly more abstract and composite representation.

Machine Learning and Deep Learning Day (20th September, 2019)
Artificial Intelligence will undoubtedly redefine our future. There has been an explosion of innovation in the field of A.I, which is predicted to further intensify in the coming years. Given the level of R&D investment placed in this exciting field, many companies have increased their efforts at protecting A.I related innovations. However, the majority of these companies have realised, at great expense and effort, that not all innovations can or should be protected. In this presentation, we will explore the nature of A.I innovations, how they can be protected, and provide examples of smart IP protection strategies that when correctly implemented can yield a tangible return on investment.
NLP, or Natural Language Processing, has become particularly relevant in the areas of economics and finance.
With market sentiment playing a large part in the behaviour of world markets, NLP has become a key tool to quantify such sentiment and ultimately make informed market predictions.
This workshop will illustrate how machine learning tools in Python can be used to track economic sentiment through NLP. Participants will gain an understanding of text processing techniques using the NLTK library, as well as the role of tools such as TF-IDF, Support Vector Machines, and LSTMs in text classification.
