Overview of the event

Machine learning is a field of artificial intelligence that uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to "learn from data, without being explicitly programmed.

The "deep" in "deep learning" refers to the number of layers through which the data is transformed. Deep Learning is a new area of Machine Learning research, which has been introduced with the objective of moving Machine Learning closer to its original goals. In deep learning, each level learns to transform its input data into a slightly more abstract and composite representation.

I can give talk on different concepts in AI (data mining, machine learning, deep learning & reinforcement learning), Big Data Analytics (Business Intelligence, Advanced Analytics) and Data Science. Demystifying how they are interrelated and their applications?

Annie is currently working as Director of Data Science/Chief data scientist in UL. Previously, she has worked with ResMed as global advanced analytics manager and senior research scientist with Intel. She has doctorate degree in Artificial Intelligence, masters and bachelors degrees in computer science and information technologies. She has 15 years of R&D experience and worked as assistant vice president of data science, analytics manager, lead data scientist, software engineer, system analyst, researcher, research scientist and authored many technical patents, conference proceedings, journal articles and blogs.

NLP, or Natural Language Processing, has become particularly relevant in the areas of economics and finance.
With market sentiment playing a large part in the behaviour of world markets, NLP has become a key tool to quantify such sentiment and ultimately make informed market predictions.
This workshop will illustrate how machine learning tools in Python can be used to track economic sentiment through NLP. Participants will gain an understanding of text processing techniques using the NLTK library, as well as the role of tools such as TF-IDF, Support Vector Machines, and LSTMs in text classification.

Michael Grogan is a machine learning consultant and educator who specialises in the use of Python and R. He aids business stakeholders in using machine learning technologies to generate solutions for a variety of business intelligence issues, and has presented his work in machine learning research at major data science conferences across Europe.

In a connected environment with high penetration of variable generation from renewable energies, the upcoming smart grid should provide accurate electricity forecast at feeder and building level. Notably, in complex buildings, the precise forecast of peak consumption can trigger demand response mechanisms to reduce the peak load and provide a better power system integration. How can predict with the maximum accuracy the peak load in a complex building fully metered and equipped with solar panels, cogeneration systems, swimming pool and shopping points? What are the latest deep learning techniques to apply and how the system can benefit from the use of effective forecast tools? Is the white box still a necessary tool, or can we replace it with AI models?
