X Topic Abstract

We've all seen it at some point - suddenly Agile and DevOps are brandished as silver bullets within an organisation, usually coupled with some innovative technology like Kubernetes, at the ready to solve every possible problem.
What's really unfortunate is what happens next: usually failure. DevOps used as a tool is not effective, and it can be extremely dangerous.
Where DevOps really shines is as a foundation for people's empowerment - let's see how this can be put into practice.

Speaker Profile

Matteo is passionate about technology, but it is not his only interest – what really makes him tick is how technology acts as a tool to solve a complex business problem, ultimately bringing benefits to the company.
Regular speaker at conferences and meetups, he enjoys sharing back with the worldwide technical communities – especially about ALM, Agile and DevOps.
He currently works at Avanade UK as a Group Manager for Software Engineering.

X Topic Abstract

Given the importance of data analysis increasing day by day, it is becoming imperative to learn the technology and optimize our work. Exploratory testing is a skill most of the quality engineers are familiar with. In this talk, I will share my experience on how I leveraged my exploratory testing skills to learn data exploration, which helped me become more efficient.
Exploratory data analysis is used by data scientists to analyze and investigate data sets and summarize their main characteristics, often employing data visualization methods. It helps determine how best to manipulate data sources to get the answers you need, making it easier for data scientists to discover patterns, spot anomalies, test a hypothesis, or check assumptions.
I will share my TACO approach and the techniques involved in performing data exploration along with the github repository.

Key Takeaways:
After attending this talk, the next time you encounter a data set, you will learn:
1. How to handle missing values
2. Identify and manage invalid entries
3. Check for null and empty values, replacing/appending necessary changes

X Topic Abstract

As the world is going through digital transformation and network evolution, the single perimeter is slowly dissolving into software defined perimeter. While designing security controls for the network, security teams have to now consider polyglot microservices, networks which are dynamic in nature, and multiple layers of abstraction … welcome to the containerised world! This session will discuss the topics aimed at securing the containers, K8s and microservices. It will also touch upon on why container security is more important than ever, and how we could better secure them.,

X Topic Abstract

DevOps is an approach that entails the union between development and operations teams to allow better collaboration and help businesses operate at full capacity. Applying a DevOps culture in an enterprise model enables quicker deployment, security, maintenance, and software development management.
When transitioning to DevOps, there are some factors to consider before proceeding which include:
- Evaluating the need to switch to a different model
- Communicating set goals
- Starting small and expanding gradually
- Measuring each step
- And choosing relevant automating tools.
Benefits of Implementing DevOps for Businesses
Transitioning to DevOps is a major organizational shift. The approach requires re-evaluating several business objectives and turning to a more technologically-inclined route. Therefore, it’s important to keep track of the transition journey and ensure that teams are adhering to the strategies. Prioritize innovation, communication, and feedback at every development stage, so it’s easier to shift to a new operational framework. Once the implementation is successful, there will be huge upgrades in marketing efforts, team efficiency, and product quality.

X Topic Abstract

Platforms are THE buzzword of the moment. But what is this? It is a centralized place where developers can enjoy self-service APIs, tools, and services. Does it look like a dream? More and more is becoming a reality in some companies. But how to build a platform that will meet our developer's needs?
In this talk, we will talk about platforms, their importance, and why this platform must be treated, above all, as a product, with a total focus on the developer experience. You will leave the presentation with practical examples of the importance of this practice and where it has been used, ready to adopt within your context!

X Topic Abstract

Organizations globally are adopting CI/CD led scaled agile development process to meet or exceed the business demands of high velocity feature releases. This has automatically given importance to the microservices based architectures that are loosely coupled and can be developed as independent components stitched together much closer to production. Having said that, we all know that microservices architecture has much more surface area for security attacks as compared to monolithic architecture and also the speed at which these services are developed and deployed can also lead to vulnerabilities getting injected inadvertently. In this session we will discuss some practical ways of implementing best practices of Security and DevSecOps for Microservices architectures with some examples

X Topic Abstract

The talk covers four categories of system failures and mitigation approaches for each based on Anurag’s background at AWS running analytic and database services.

Speaker Profile

Anurag Gupta is the founder/CEO of Shoreline.io. Shoreline aims to help operators reduce the undifferentiated heavy lifting in their jobs so they can focus on improving their systems. Prior to Shoreline, Anurag spent 7.5 years at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he ran their analytic and relational database services. Managing services deployed on millions of nodes while ticketing on a per-instance basis taught me the importance of distributed control and automation.

X Topic Abstract

You’ve got thousands of automated tests running, multiple test and coverage reports and logs – but you can’t see the forest from the trees. The problem is you don’t know: Is it safe to release? With refined, specific metrics, you can define reports (or dashboard) that tell you the real quality of the product. You can then decide what to do about it.
This is a case-study of building a quality report set with metrics and reports that matter for an application with hundreds of APIs, and multiple front-ends. Some features were better covered than others, but what that coverage meant was vague. The dashboard was built, collecting information from multiple sources – test reports and coverage reports from Jenkins, custom logs that were farmed for information, SonarQube and more. We then added some “brains” to show the analyzed metrics, in terms of covered and uncovered test cases, test quality and more. We then presented a confidence level calculated from the metrics. The effort was done by developers, quality advisors, dev-ops people and others. This session is about this project.
The reports help managers see what features are ready, where the gaps are, and gave back feedback to the developers how well their tests are working for them. With this session you may be inspired to build quality reports that tell you how well your team is doing.

Takeaway:
• Focus on quality metrics that are important for your team
• Provide managers the highlights, and focus developers on why and where to fix
• You probably have tools already

X Topic Abstract

HTTP/2, full json support and a great networking stack, all that is part of Go’s standard library. Just like everything else you need for a smashing web application. You can run your Go application on AWS Lambda, any operating system or in your browser with WebAssembly thanks to Go’s extreme portability. You will learn the basics of web development with Go very hands on and with just the standard library of Go. Along the way we will touch essential tooling and dev setup. By then building a REST API or simple server rendered frontend is a piece of cake. And let us not forget to properly test the bastard, before putting it out in the wild.
