Overview of the event

DevOps is much more than just local improvement in the development, delivery and operation of software: it represents a movement that touches development and operations (obviously!), but organisational culture, quality assurance, security, and program management.

Automation, Agile processes, micro services, continuous delivery, container and cloud technologies are essential to the current high performance IT transformation.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Machine Learning and AI provide immense opportunity in Data and Process Analytics for optimum outcomes.

New business models presented by DevSecOps and NoOps are further increasing the opportunities for enterprise to deliver quality software.

I will share a journey from a legacy-monolith application developed on a homegrown framework that used to randomly crash and burn, with go live every four months at 3AM.

To the same legacy-monolith that now serves as a Front-end, API and messaging application and how developer commits safely go Live every three days at 7AM.

This is not "how we hired Super-Heroes/Avengers who broke down a monolith", but rather how we came together as a team, looked at the codebase to understand how bad the situation was and then worked with business to solve a long standing technical problem while continuously delivering business changes.

In this talk I will share the changes we made in the way we groom and plan our stories, how we went from manual to automated application server configuration and deployments, including the challenges we faced when doing database changes with HA deployments and how the same monolith now runs on WildFly on a VM and as a standalone application on a docker image.

DevOps cultural shift will be explored to identify how better team collaboration can be achieved as a result of building teams that gel. The presentation will be mostly on creating teams that work through breaking down of silos between Dev and Ops, for the purpose of realizing the benefits of effective team collaboration to deliver value at speed.
