X Topic Abstract

RPA Adoption is on the rise! RPA has reached more places in terms of perceived benefits today. I appreciate all those who are providing undeterred support and pushing themselves to the edge - to make the adoption happen. RPA is indeed a reality but should not be viewed as a magic wand which will pave way for unprecedented cost savings converting directly to dollars.
Adoption may be in a rush mode but the first few steps are extremely critical to encourage and motivate teams for the subsequent ones.
The below 5 key critical success factors, if baked into the planning and execution will make things easier for RPA adoption:
1. Know the problem candidate well
2. Target low hanging candidates first – not complex ones
3. Did we do the art of the possible? Did we include IT early enough?
4. Follow SITO rule – Simplify, Improve, Transform and Optimize
5. There is NO “One Size Fits All”

Day 2: Innovations in Testing (30th November, 2018)

X Topic Abstract

There is a new and emerging method of developing digital apps, that is called PWA (progressive web app) which offers great user experience that of native apps and RWD site which offer similar experience across both mobile and web.
Since this app type is new and works on both mobile and web but adds unique capabilities when consumed on a mobile device like push notifications, no or limited network connectivity, and more, the testing strategy needs to adjust.
In this session, Sreevatsa will walk through the fundamentals of PWAs, and what are the main differences, pro's and con's between these apps, RWD, and Native apps. IN addition, Sree will provide a test methodology that can help teams who adopt this technology to get started and cover the unique capabilities of these apps, like Service Workers, Manifest file testing, and more.

X Topic Abstract

This keynote aims to bring the fact, that testing is integral part of software supply chain. Developers who were doing unit testing initially and gave the piece of code to third party as in testers to test . Testers tested the product independently in unbiased fashion and provided defects. Developers were asked to shift right and testers where asked to shift left. They came a full circle as SDET ( Software Development Engineers in Testing) . Testers worked closely with Developers in Agile World and the concept of “ Software Supply Chain Engineer” evolved.
Testers need to follow ten commandment s namely
I am the tester. I am proud of it. I own the product, I can somersault it.
I am proud to be a tester. I can shift left, shift right, Shift up. Though I am shot by the customer , I am a proud postman.
I am the customer advocate , I am at the center of Universe.
I test because I love, I test not because I don’t know to code
I test because I love, I have arrived, I can work with machines and work with them in tandem, harmoniously
I am all along the software delivery chain, you can see me from concept to finish. Right from I am the shiva, the destroyer, I destroy the product and help the brahma ( creator) in co creating it too.
I don’t have a religion , manual or automation, I am learning it all, Try me out, give me time, I can help and will help I am a generalizing specialist
I am the king. I am the context imperial king. At the stroke of midnight, when the whole IT industry is seeing job losses, No one can touch me , as I have embraced the future , I have seen the future, ………….Testers Zindabad..
DEVELOP THE PRIDE AS TESTER AND DON’T HAVE INFERIORITY COMPLEX AS “ DEVELOPER BHI KABHI TESTER THA AND TESTER BHI DEVELOPER HOGAYEGA….
AAKIR SAME KA MALIK EK HAI …. KYUNKI TESTING CENTER OF UNIVERSE HAI….

X Topic Abstract

During the past five years I spent training people on problem-solving, I made a few observations. THough participants are generally eager to learn the techniques to solve problems, they are still largely unaware how and where to practically employ these. How can strategies help solve a problem? How and when to extend the scope of a solution, without compromising on its utility. They anxiously debate amongst each other and spend considerable time/energy upon someone challenging them, but unfortunately ignore the big picture, thus ending up with incomplete, ineffective solutions. This "ignorance" went on to grow so big as to create an existential crisis for the practitioners of software testing, or so it appears in the back-drop of "automation". Then, little do anyone realize that how well all parties could co-exist, and do better than the sum of their efforts. Of course, there's no easy solution to this problem. One of the aspects of a solution is to re-educate the doomsayers. But equally important, is to generate practical ideas for rest of us to come out of this mess.
I propose to solve this needless dilemma by bringing "automation" under the larger umbrella called tooling. Tool-sets instead of automation suites. Tool libraries instead of automation frameworks. Tool designers instead of automation engineers. We'll also explore some ideas for tools of the most generic nature, during this session.

Speaker Profile

Anand has 22 years of experience with testing software systems, most of which was spent on automation and related areas of work. During this period, he also played roles other than a native “tester” role –been a development engineer to a technical writer to a product manager. He involves himself a lot into activities that benefit the larger community and especially loves to teach relevant skills to others. He shares his thoughts through various forums and speaks at conferences regularly.

X Topic Abstract

Behaviour driven development which can trace its roots to Test Driven Development process has been around us for quite some time. In philosophy, it tries to create a synergy between different aspects of the software product development process. As per Dan North, created a BDD framework, BDD is an outside-in, pull-based, multiple-stakeholder, multiple-scale, high-automation, agile methodology. It describes a cycle of interactions with well-defined outputs, resulting in the delivery of working, tested software that matters. Testing and test automation are one of key stakeholders of this approach, and rightly so. For any behaviour based approach requires a constant feedback for its continuous improvement. It becomes rather imperative that we should design our test softwares and frameworks which can keep up with this demanding approach.

For such approach, behaviour becomes one of the fundamental unit and we can construct the entire test lifecycle by properly framing and chaining these behavioural units together. If we are able to introduce automation to this process, then it becomes a long term reaping reward where we get benefited not just by having a robust user level documentation which all the stakeholders understand, a validated product with clearly defined user perspective also a regression suite which will help in other functional integrations. Furthermore, this behaviour based scripts could be treated as source of truth for all future developments and/or improvements as they have been vetted by different stakeholders!

Behaviour driven test automation is at the heart of such approach. We have open source frameworks and domain specific language at one hand like Cucumber which tries to solve a part this problem and imbibes 'Three Amigos' principle but they have their own set of challenges. Svatah is trying to redefine this approach in its own unique way. Svatah imbibes the behaviour driven philosophy. Svatah's goal is to be a comprehensive behaviour driven test automation platform where any stakeholder with their understanding of the business could come and automate the behaviour. Users of Svatah can chain these unique behaviours using flows. Your Svatah flows then would tell you the story of your end user journey, making them useful across your organisation. Moreover, Svatah will take care of all of the plumbing code, environment setup, machine setup etc letting you focus on developing your user journey.

Speaker Profile

Atul has been working for more than 5 years in the field of test automation and related software development. In his short career span, he has had the opportunity to work with organisations like Snapdeal, Sprinklr, Zoomcar etc. He prefers java as his coding language and has worked on various server side stack using Spring, Play framework etc as well as test automation frameworks and libraries like, TestNg, Rest Assured, Selenium, Cucumber etc. He is passionate about providing solutions to the problem test automation faces and believes that future of test automation is in its integration with machine learning and AI.

Apart from this, he like writing poems, articles etc on Medium. He is a big movie/tv series buff and would welcome a long discussion on any topic related to science, technology or philosophy over a cup of coffee.
