X Topic Abstract

The objective of business intelligence is to build charts and visualizations from enterprise data that informs users about how organization is performing across various metrics. Despite its powerful array of visualizations, the current generation of BI tools put the onus of interpreting the charts on the users. The burden of understanding and getting the information from dashboards and reports has been always on the users. Artificial Intelligence (AI) with its advanced suite of technologies like Natural Language Generation (NLG) enables extraction of patterns and creation of narratives for any visualization. Automated narratives help even non-technical audience to get the best use of BI.

X Topic Abstract

Data visualization is basically used for three main reasons; speed, comprehension and for depicting relationships. Storytelling gets life when data visualizations are used, data visualization helps turn business insights into actions more effectively. Data visualization helps to balance the requirement between author driven narrative and reader driven narratives.

Data visualization shouldn’t be interpreted as just use of technology & tools it is actually bringing data to life for actionable insights. The first step in data visualization is to understand what exactly is the business requirement followed by mapping the requirement to the target audience, decisions, channels and then applying the best practices in terms of layouts, charts, colours etc. It is important to know the type of your data is it quantitative, continuous, discrete or categorical.

Estimating the ROI for Data visualization is becoming critical. It should be around improving the productivity, increasing revenue, increasing compliance or reducing risk. It is important to ensure that we shouldn’t be data rich and information poor. Without effective data visualization, business decision-makers may find it difficult to understand or might misinterpret the results from BI and analytics applications.
