In some teams, BAs also play the role of a user experience designer, team lead, change manager, technical analyst, and / or solution tester, perhaps even dabbling in technical design, data analytics or even development.

The challenge was how to deliver a large Big Data transformation project and document business rules during a project with tight deadlines and constrained resources. This is a challenge that faces a number of teams today and I will share how our team successfully navigated this all too familiar scenario.

He started his 20+ year career in IT fixing computers and today has successfully led a major transformation project that moved from a traditional relational database to a big data implementation that has resulted in a major benefit to the organisation. Through his career, he has utilised tools such as Microsoft SQL, Hadoop, Cognos, PowerBI and Tableau to build a multitude of solutions across many industries including Financial Services, Pharmaceutical, Telecoms, Consulting, Entertainment and Manufacturing. Gershon has a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Computer Science), Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees and a number of industry-related certifications.

The introduction of Agile methodologies and companies tendencies to having hybrid methodologies for project implementation has lead to the evolution of the Business Analyst role, this means the expectation of the role has changes and the skills requirements are different. •Business Analysts can prioritise the correct areas of focus, saving time setting targets for parts of the customer journey that have a real impact.

•Thus great CX is always linked to strong collaboration across silos, may this be departments and/or business processes.

•Business leaders of such a CX transformation journey, will find it hard to secure sufficient resources for needed investments if they don’t have evidence that their efforts will generate business value

•Making a successful business requires using customer research and operational data to link customer satisfaction with financial outcomes, such as customer churn and new revenue.

Zjaen is a Data Management evangelist with experience in the full Data Management scope, opening with Data Warehousing, Data Modelling to Masterdata and through to Data Science and Analytics.

He kickstarted his adventures in Data with a Master’s degree in Computer Science, and dived straight into building data Marts and Statistical Models as a Data Analyst.

He then supported this by leading the Analytics, SAP BW, GIS and EDW teams for 5 years at Telkom, and then headed up Data Management at BCX for a year.

He has since moved on and took on a new challenge as the Head of Data Insights at Telkom SA where he drives the data strategy and works with a cross functional team of data engineers, data scientists and data management & master data experts.

Nicky is a Principal Consultant with over 29 years’ experience across the Financial Services, Medical Insurance and Consulting sectors. She has fulfilled several roles over her career which include Enterprise Analyst, Senior Business Analyst, Systems Co-Ordinator / Team Lead, and Account Manager.

As a Senior Business Analyst, she was accountable for analysing, optimising, testing and implementing end-to-end enterprise business processes as part of multi-skilled teams for a large Retail Bank. She has interacted with the business community at all levels, from facilitating design workshops and conducting end user training to leading presentations to executive management.

Nicky has fulfilled many core functions across various projects. Some of the more relevant capabilities include: Problem identification, root cause analysis, alternative solutions evaluation and recommendations; Business requirements gathering, business, systems and data analysis and documentation; Design processes and management of functional specifications development, data integrity, prototype and solution development and implementation; Relationship management with business across all levels.
