Overview of the event

In today's world scenario a BA has multiple roles from participating in agile projects to play the dual role of product owner, or business ambassador. In some teams, BAs also play the role of a user experience designer, team lead, change manager, technical analyst, and / or solution tester, perhaps even dabbling in technical design, data analytics or even development.

At BA Innovation Summit we will learn how Business Analyst can make the difference between a successful and a struggling project. We will learn how Business Analyst practitioners can provide excellent service through the project process, asking questions, applying techniques, creating documents and presentations, and clarifying how to implement the approved solution.

X Topic Abstract

Business Analyst is one of the most versatile professions, allowing us to understand more sides of the business than most, and enabling a work life balance many struggle to achieve. You can specialize in process, or agile methodologies and software development, or system integration, or operational excellence, or RPA. There are noticeable trends at play; BAs functioning as project managers, bots are changing our solution options, and who knows what AI will bring to the table? That said, many of today's top companies are still working on process and data efficiency. Most aren't ready for full automation and the big ideas many of us get when asked to solve a problem. They're often focused on converting to a more fluid and integrated system. Based on that I think we're still a ways off from being replaced by machine. We still have time to explore our interests, leverage the versatility of this role, and assess the future as it unfolds.

X Topic Abstract

Mining operations in Kabwe, Zambia ceased in 1994. However, the poisonous waste/dump from almost a century of mining lead and zinc, is still causing illness and death to many residents who were unknowingly exposed to toxic waste over time because the mine owners deliberately kept information about the impact of lead exposure on health, hidden from employees and residents of the localities around the mining area. Hospitals and clinics which at the time treated all mine workers and their families, were owned and operated by the mining company and did not share the actual cause of the illnesses with the patients for fear of legal liabilities. Instead, workers affected by lead and zinc once diagnosed, were often transferred to divisions in different cities where they continued to suffer from the lead poisoning effects or died. The presentation will discuss Kabwe’s transformation to a vibrant city through mining at the expense of the residents’ health as the mines dumped toxic waste without the citizens’ knowledge, with dexterous effects on the residents and why these toxic dumps still exist long after the mine closures. The presentation will include recommendations to rehabilitate the city.
